Getting back into the swing of things

Hey Everyone,

It’s been awhile since I have posted, so I figure it’s about time to start this again.  The back surgery went great, and now I’m slowly healing.  I’ve had a great deal of support from my family and friends who all pitched in to help me while I was laid up.  So with all that being said I really haven’t been working on the website or taking part in any webinar’s.  If you have any great information that I might have missed please feel free to contact me and share it.

This week will be a washout since thanksgiving is tomorrow and I need to get all prep work completed before the family and friends come over to enjoy a good meal.

Does anyone out there have any good ideas they would like to share with our audience about how to generate traffic for their websites?  Are there any products that you would like to share with us?

Well I’m going to keep this short and sweet today.

Thanks,

Joseph Martin

Business Plan Writing

Hey everyone,

Today let’s talk about business plan, why it’s important and how to create one easily.

What is a business plan?

A business plan is a document that is a brief description for each of the following 10 categories.  Remember you want to keep it short and sweet, let’s say 140 characters or less.

1.       One sentence describing your business.  (Value Proposition)
2.       The “problem” that your business is responding to.  (Market Need)
3.       Description of your products, remember pictures are always a great thing here. (Your Solution)
4.       Is there anyone else in this market?  If so then how is your product different or better? (Competition)
5.       Who will be buying your product?  (Target Market)
6.       How much will it cost you to produce this product? How much will you sell your product for?  How long before you will make a profit?  (Financials: Budgeting & Forecasting)
7.       How will you market your product? (Sales Channels & Marketing Activities)
8.       What is your business working towards? (Milestones)
9.       Who are you and why are you qualified to run this venture? (Management Team)
10.   This section is optional: How much money will you need in order to grow your business and how will you use these funds? (Funding Needs & Use of Funds)
Now that we know what needs to be included in our business plan let’s go ahead and break these down, remember keep them short about 140 characters.
Value Proposition: What is the gist of your business?  The 140 character limit will help you hone in on what you do and why you’re special at doing it.
Market Need: Remember no market need = no needs for your product.  If you’re not sure then ask, how hard would it be for you to ask potential clients what they think about your product?
Your Solution: This is where you will describe your product and make it shine.  Ask yourself this question, “what would you tell someone who asked you what do you sell?”
Target Market: You need to be specific on who you are targeting your product too (ex: gender, geography, age, etc.)
Competition: Think about where your customers are currently buying or will be buying from.  You need to know your competition.
Funding Needs: You will more than likely need funding whether its $1 or even $5,000, be sure you understand how these funds will help you.  Also when you will be able to pay off the debt.
Sales Channels: Where are you planning on selling your product or services?
Marketing Activities: How are you going to market your product or service so you can get cliental?
Financial Projections: How much will it cost you to produce and market your product?  How many products are planning on selling in a certain amount of time?
Milestones: this is where you want to tell what you have accomplished so far, and what goals you are hoping to achieve.
Management Team: You always want to brag about yourself and your team, well here is the place you finally get to show off all your skills and what makes you the best. You also need to address any roles that are missing from your team.
So after reading this I sure hope that you feel more confident about your business plan writing skills.  Now go ahead and sit down, try to clear your head and write your business plan.

Thank you,
JPM

Sales Pitch

Hello everyone,

I hope that today is a great day for you.  Let me first start off by saying, I’m currently in surgery and I will hopefully be back at it tomorrow 11-6-13.  Now down to business, I know my last post really laid a lot of information on you.  So let me make this blog more like a sales pitch even though I know you guys don’t want to hear it, but once I am finished here I hope you will understand that this company we support is the real deal.

Many of you who have been in this business for a while now must have heard this statement, “The money is in the list”.  Wow that statement is very vague in its meaning.  Let me try to break it down for you, your list is your customers or potential customers that have opted in and shown interest in your business.  So yes the money is in your list, but most people just do not understand this.  What a lot of people will do is send out a great deal of spam or tons of offers to their list.  This is not a great way to be treating you tribe or followers.  You want to treat them right and then your list will literal turn in gold.  So now that you have them we need to treat them more like diamonds.  So if you haven’t already go out and learn the “Lingo” for the niche you are thinking about starting your business in so you can talk the talk and walk the walk.

If you join the link that I have at the bottom of the blog then you will receive the four primary functions for your business and they are:

  1. Provide training, support, and community.
  2. Provide your “infrastructure”. (Web sites, follow up systems, tracking, call center, advertising placement, etc.)
  3. Serve as a “feeder” product to find customers who may be interested in your primary “top tier” offering.
  4. “Fund your proposal” by automating the sale of other products to help “monetize your list”.

Now go ahead and take some time to reread the list again.  It would literally cost you thousands of dollars and an untold amount of hours to create this.  This company already contains everything you need to get your business up and running.  The biggest and most important thing is that they will teach you how to use it as well.

So guys and gals I urge you to at least take a look at this business that has help our business become success, you will not regret it at all.

Thank you,

JPM

Products

Hey everyone,

I hope the day has found you well.  Today let’s discuss products and what different types there are.  To begin most products will fall into these different categories:

·         Physical Product and deliverables.

o   (Computers, phone, homes, cars etc…)

·         Digital products and goods.

o    (Kindle book, software, apps etc...)

·         Information Based Products typically not available as a physical product.

o    (Learning course, “Hot To’ download products, making money xyz industries...)

·         Mom and pop services and business

o    (local small business selling to the local peoples want and needs)

·         Large Corporation and franchises

o    (Fortune 500’s, $50 million + yearly revenue etc…)

Remember that physical products always carry an “End Result” everything does.  So you as a business owner need to constantly keep that in your head.  Now let’s ask some questions to ourselves, what is the user’s end result?  What are there pains, problems, wants and needs?  These are questions that you need to consider when starting the business.

Let’s think about this.

You can buy a brand new Hyundai Elantra for under $17,000. No doubt it will get you anywhere you need to go, no problem. Yet a new Mercedes CLS 550 Coupe costs $72,500. More than 4x’s the cost, yet it does essentially the same thing! Why? You could reason: quality, superior design and craftsmanship, better engine, will last longer… That’s the rational excuse most may use when they buy a Mercedes. But it’s really an emotionally driven decision, such as… I’ll be seen as successful, accomplished, I’ll attract my ideal mate in this car, it reflects my lifestyle etc. Once again, there is always logic and emotion based reasoning on any purchase.

Let’s now talk about end results that are logically and emotionally based.  Now I’m going to take a very simple item that we all use Shampoo.  The logic behind it is: Cleans my hair, it’s a habit, and it’s acceptable.  Now remember there is an emotion side, so here it is: People won’t think I stink, opposite sex will be attracted to my odor. Stinky people are viewed as disgusting and poor and I don’t want to be portrayed that way…

Now there is also opportunity based products or also known as information products which are made in order to get some result through the product you are purchasing.  There are different types of opportunity products but they always fit into one of these three:

  • Business, Make Money, and Investment Opportunities (stocks and bonds, franchises, MLM, online marketing products, etc.)
  • Relationship Opportunities (double your dating; meet your dream mate, better sex, online dating and advice etc.)
  • Health and Fitness Opportunities (Lose weight fast, put on more muscle, vegan diets, gluten free lifestyle etc.)

Why are these markets so competitive?  It’s because people want these things the most and you as a business owner need to go where the people are.  Remember the big 3; Health, Relationships, and money are what you as business owners want to stick close too.  In order to do this we need to obtain some leverage over the bigger players don’t we?  Well let’s niche down a topic within the big 3, let go ahead and do weight loss:

·         Weight loss (very broad)

·         Weight loss for women (broad)

·         Weight loss for brides (niched down)

·         Kettle bell workouts for women (niched down)

·         Lose weight fast after pregnancy (niched down)

So constantly think to yourself what do people “desire”?  Not just what they want but what their emotions are pulling them towards.

Well I sure hope that you guys learned a little from this post.

Thank you,

JPM

Why 85% Of Franchises Succeed While Most Other Businesses Fail

Hello Everyone,

Today let’s talk about Why 85% Of Franchises Succeed While Most Other Businesses Fail.  Let’s start off with, it’s extremely risky to try and start your very own business.  People rarely consider all that goes into creating a business, and that is why only less than 20% of them make it, and out of that 20% even less will stay open for more than a year.  This is one of the biggest reasons that franchises will make it over a mom and pop startup company.

When you are looking to start a company you want to look into franchises.  You want to make sure that the system has a successful track record.  So you don’t want to be out there joining these groups who claim to make you thousands, you want to see actual claims and testimonies.  You also want to be part of something that will give you constant training and help to ensure your success.  You don’t want to go out and pay all this money for a program that will not even give back to you when you need help.

So now let’s take a moment to think about some of the most well-known brands you use, the restaurants you eat at even the stores you shop.  Are the store and restaurants franchised or independent?  Why do you think that most of them are franchised?  It’s because they have a proven business model that works.  Banks are very skeptical to give money to independent business owners because of the great risk involved, whereas franchises they will lend all day long, because they have a record of success.

Now think about the local business in your town or the next town over.  How’s long do you think they work each day?  Is the owner even working there?  Is the owner able to leave on a vacation and not have to worry about the store?  Or are they chained to their store?  These are some of the things that people do not think about when they start a business.

Here’s another example, how many times have you seen a local business with great service or products that six months or even a year down the road have their doors closed?  Are you now starting to understand where I’m coming from when I say that it’s better to purchase a franchise then to start up yourself?  There is proven power in a franchise model.  Yes they may cost more in the beginning but in the long haul they end up making you money.

Thank you,

JPM

Magic number

Hello Everyone,
Today I would like to discuss upselling, and business models.  Do you as a business owner realize that most online business or stores have a top-tier product?  Think about this, every time you order something from McDonald’s what do they ask you?  They always follow-up your order with, “Would you like fries with that?”  This is McDonald’s way up selling you a top-tier product.  Who would have thought that that those words could help make them as popular as they are today, just by making you buy the top-tier item.  Now think about other places you go where they offer top-tier products, this is what you would like for your business as well.
Now that we have a feel for what other business are doing to upsell you lets discuss business models.  You must start from the end and work your way to the beginning.  This means do not worry about traffic, instead focus on the product that you want to sell and see if there is a market for it.  If there is no market then your business will not succeed.  So your first step is to do some research on the economics of the area you are trying to get into.  After you have done this then you want to focus on your targeted traffic, which will result in sales + profit.
The most important number to you as a business owner needs to know is the Average Visitor Value.  If you have not done so by now I highly suggest you use Google Analytics, It free and very simple to use.  Once you are a member you will be able to see your unique visitors plus average visitor value.  You want to always start measuring even if you are not making any money. I’m going to show you how to calculate your average visitor value:
1)
Leads

X
2)
Conversion ratio (those who bought & those you didn’t

=

Customers

X
3)
Frequency of Transactions

X
4)
Average Transaction size

=

Total Revenue

X
5)
Margins (% you keep)

=

PROFIT

This is one of the numbers you as business owners need to completely be aware of everyday.

If you have any further questions please feel free to contact me and I can discuss with you how to go about figuring this formula out.

Thank you,
JPM
